Trees4Africa

WELCOME to Trees4Africa and thank you for your interest!

Trees4Africa is an important initiative which aims to plant 1 million trees in Africa by 2015...

Our programme is driven by a passionate group of UK professionals working in close partnership with a number of fantastic African communities.

The work centres on the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho - a little known but highly challenged country in southern Africa which is often referred to as the 'kingdom in the sky.'

Travel writers that visit Lesotho cruelly comment that Lesotho's biggest export is its top soil! This would be humorous if it were not so serious. With many households growing what they eat, it is essential that the soil is conserved.

Through collaborative and educational partnerships Trees4Africa seeks to address the issues of soil erosion, soil fertility, fruit production and the sustainable growth of fuel wood.

The sustainable growing and harvesting of trees that provide fuel wood is a high priority as this is the main source of heating and cooking for thousands of community members - and temperatures in Lesotho can plummet to minus 18 degrees in the winter!

At Trees4Africa we plant 3 types of tree; the Cheche tree which is an excellent source of firewood, fruit-bearing trees and the Acacia Karoo tree which fertilises and binds soil. There are many other advantages to planting trees... To find out more please click here.

Please help us to achieve our vision of planting 1 million trees by 2015 by planting a tree yourself! It's quick and easy to do - simply select one of the options below...
